Membrane Filter Press | High-Pressure Dewatering | Industrial Solid-Liquid Separation Equipment
1. Product Overview
Our Membrane Filter Press is an advanced solid-liquid separation machine designed to achieve extremely low moisture content through its unique membrane squeezing technology.
Compared with a conventional chamber filter press, the membrane type performs secondary squeezing, significantly enhancing dewatering efficiency and shortening filtration cycles.
The system uses high-quality PP membrane plates or rubber membrane plates, arranged alternately with chamber plates. After initial filtration, compressed air or water is injected into the membranes to expand them and press the filter cake further, achieving a much drier result.
This equipment is widely used in industries that require high dryness, high purity, and efficient filtration, such as mining, chemicals, wastewater treatment, metallurgy, food and pharmaceuticals.
2. Working Principle
Stage 1 – Feeding & Filtration
Slurry is fed into the chambers. The filter cloth captures solids, forming a filter cake.
Stage 2 – Membrane Squeezing
After filtration stops, compressed air or water (typically 5–7 bar) is injected into the membrane plates. The membranes expand and squeeze the filter cake tightly.
Stage 3 – Second Dehydration
Additional liquid is forced out of the cake, significantly reducing moisture content.
Optional – Cake Washing
Clean water is pumped through specially designed passages to wash the filter cake for purity-sensitive applications.
Optional – Air Drying
Compressed air is blown through the cake to further reduce residual moisture.
Cake Discharge
When the cycle finishes, plates open, and the dry cake is discharged easily.

3. Key Advantages
✔ Ultra-Low Moisture Content
Membrane squeezing ensures the filter cake is significantly drier than with a standard filter press.
✔ Faster Cycle Times
The squeezing step reduces filtration time and increases productivity.
✔ Higher Purity Through Cake Washing
Ideal for industries needing clean, washed cakes (chemicals, food, pharma).
✔ Reliable & Robust Structure
The machine shares the structural stability of a chamber filter press but adds high-pressure squeezing capability.

8. FAQs
Q: What is the difference between a membrane filter press and a chamber filter press?
A: The membrane type performs secondary squeezing using air or water, achieving much lower moisture content.
Q: Is air squeezing or water squeezing better?
A: Air squeezing is cleaner and simpler; water squeezing achieves stronger pressure. Selection depends on your process.
Q: Do you offer full automation?
A: Yes—PLC control, automatic plate shifting, automatic cloth washing, and drip trays are available.
Q: Can the machine be customized?
A: Absolutely. Plate size, filtration area, material, automation, pump selection—all based on customer requirements.

The Ultimate Guide: How to Choose the Right Filter Press for Your Industry
Selecting the ideal filter press is not just about buying a machine; it is about optimizing your entire production efficiency and reducing long-term OPEX (Operating Expenses). Whether you are in Mining (Nickel/Gold), Wastewater Treatment, or Chemical Processing, follow these 5 critical steps to make the right choice.
1. Define Your Slurry Characteristics
The nature of your material dictates the materials of construction for the filter press.
Solid Concentration: What is the percentage of solids in your feed? Higher concentrations may require larger chambers.
Particle Size: Fine particles (like Nickel HPAL tailings) require specialized filter cloths and higher pressure.
Chemical Nature: Is it acidic, alkaline, or abrasive? For corrosive slurries, Bestcome’s Reinforced PP (Polypropylene) Plates are the industry standard for chemical resistance.
2. Determine the Required Cake Dryness
This is the most critical factor for transportation and disposal costs.
Chamber Filter Press: Best for standard dewatering where a solid cake is sufficient.
Membrane Filter Press: Choose this if you need the lowest possible moisture content. Membrane plates allow for secondary squeezing, which can reduce moisture by an additional 10%-15% compared to chamber plates.
3. Calculate the Capacity (Sizing)
To size your filter press correctly, you need to know the volume of solids to be removed per cycle. The formula for the required filter volume ($V$) is:

Not sure about the math? Contact our engineers to provide a free sizing calculation based on your slurry sample.
4. Choose the Level of Automation
Manual: Cost-effective for small batches or low-frequency operations.
Semi-Automatic: Features manual plate shifting but automated hydraulic closing.
Fully Automatic: Includes automatic plate shifting, cloth washing, and cake discharge. This is highly recommended for large-scale mining operations (e.g., Indonesia Nickel projects) to reduce labor costs.
5. Compare Chamber vs. Membrane Plates
Refer to the table below to see which plate technology fits your ROI goals:
| Feature | Chamber Filter Press | Membrane Filter Press |
| Initial Cost | Lower | Higher |
| Cycle Time | Standard | 30-50% Faster |
| Cake Moisture | Moderate | Lowest (Bone Dry) |
| Wash Efficiency | Average | Excellent |
| Best For | General Wastewater | Mining Tailings, Fine Chemicals |
